Staco Insurance plc is providing cover to the MTN Lagos Street Soccer Championship Season Seven as the company has been appointed the official insurer of the tournament, the management of the insurance company said.
After having provided cover to the Season five and six of the football tournament in 2012 and 2013 respectively, the insurance firm is also providing personal protection insurance cover to all the footballers and officials involved in the competition from August 30 to October 12, 2014.
Staco had earlier presented a cheque of N5 million to the Commissioner of Youth, Sports and Social Development, Wahid Enitan Oshodi towards the support of the football competition.
Associate Director, Management Services, Tayo Ajibulu, who led Staco team, said the company is encouraged to associate with the Lagos State Government’s drive of keeping the youth off the streets through positive engagement in sporting activities.
He maintained that a competition like this comes with the risk of injuries to players and that the participants need to be reassured that insurance cover is there to compensate for any loss that may arise as a result of the competition.
The company’s Managing Director, Sakiru Oyefeso, stated that Staco will always be a part of such a tourney especially as the organisation is always poised to give back to the community where it is generating its income from.
He noted that the insurance company agreed to provide insurance cover to the tournament taking into consideration that the yearly competition is designed to ensure grassroots sports development, as well as youth empowerment.
MTN Lagos Street Soccer, an initiative of the Lagos State Government, with the support of MTN, was conceived to discover raw football talents that abound on the streets of Lagos, polish and put them on a global platform to compete for recognition and success.
As a socially responsible corporate citizen, he pointed out that Staco will always want to be associated with projects that can add value to the lives of the populace in the country as this is in line with the company’s determination to make its impacts felt in its area of operations.
