MANNY Pacquiao’s Bob Arum kingpin promoter has written off Amir Khan as ‘yesterday’s news’ and dashed the Brit’s hopes of appearing in the Filipino’s comeback fight.
Khan was emphatically beaten by Canelo Alvarez back in May as the 29-year-old’s attempted move up to middleweight backfired in Las Vegas. Now his hopes of facing Pacquiao have also taken a heavy blow.
Arum, one of the biggest boxing promoters stateside, holds the keys to Pac-Man’s comeback fight and has effectively ruled the Bolton boxer out of the running with a savage assault on Khan’s reputation.
‘Amir Khan means absolutely nothing in the United States,’ Arum told Telegraph Sport.
‘He brought over no people for the Canelo fight. He saved the Brits a lot of agony.
‘He is not a draw on PPV in England. He is looked upon on both sides of the pond as yesterday’s news, and yet he refuses to recognise that and feels that his value is very, very high, which it is not.
‘Danny Garcia would be a very good opponent for Manny, but I don’t see a big movement on Garcia’s part to do that fight. If Jessie Vargas’ fight with Kell Brook falls through, Manny could fight Vargas for his title. Terence Crawford is a possibility if he beats Victor Postol.
