League Champions, Rangers International of Enugu, put the disappointment of last Friday’s loss to MFM FC behind as they pipped visiting ABS of Ilorin 1-0 ,even as El-Kanemi Warriors disciplined Sunshine Stars of Akure, 3-1 to reach the league zenith.
Daniel Etor scored the lone goal for the Flying Anthelopes in the 35th minute to aid their third win of the season .
Samuel Mathias opened scoring for El-Kanemi in the 25th minute, but Ayo Saka equalised for Sunshine on 34 minutes.
Mathias had a chance to make it 2-1 for his team but missed a 45th minute penalty.
El-Kanemi were awarded another penalty on 65 minutes, but this time Bello Kofarmata scored to put the hosts 2-1 ahead.
And in the 81st minute Mathias made amends for his penalty miss by making it 3-1 for El-Kanemi.
El-Kanemi had gone top on 21 points from 11 games.
Also on Wednesday, former league leaders Plateau couldn’t take advantage of playing at home as they were held to a 0-0 draw by a resilient Lobi Stars.
The draw meant Plateau dropped to second place on 21 points. And in Calabar, Enyimba was held to a 0-0 draw by 10-man Shooting Stars of Ibadan.
Despite Shooting Stars losing Opeyemi Adetoyi to a 77th minute red card, the Ibadan-based club still held on to secure a valuable point against the side coached by their former coach Gbenga Ogunbote.
In other results of matchday 11, Katsina United beat MFM 2-1 thanks to a 90th minute goal from Martin Ursule, Kano Pillars held Remo Stars to a 1-1 draw in Sagamu, Abia Warriors beat visiting Niger Tornadoes 1-0, while Gombe defeated FC IfeanyiUbah 2-0.
