The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended the Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) of Discovery Airways Limited for failing to rectify safety issues detected in the airline’s operations by the regulatory body.

The suspension by NCAA is coming barely six months after the airline AOC was issued on June 4, 2014.

With this suspension, the airline ceases to operate for now, pending the resolution surrounding its suspension.

The Deputy General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr Sam Adurogboye, who disclosed this in Lagos yesterday, said that the regulatory body’s action is in pursuit of its oversight responsibilities as stipulated by law.

He explained that NCAA has lately carried out a review of the operations of some domestic airlines after which letters of warning or suspension of Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) were served on defaulters.

Adurogboye,  did not mention the airlines the regulatory body carried out review on their operations and who were either warned or whose operations were suspended.

He cited Discovery Air as one of the airlines that failed to rectify the safety issues pointed out by the regulatory body within one week given by NCAA for the airline to do so in a letter written to the management of Discovery Air.
