Nasarawa Generated N16bn As IGR In 4 Years

The Acting chairman of the Nasarawa state Board of Internal Revenue, Alhaji Usman Okposhi, has disclosed that the sum N16bn was realised as Internally Generated Revenue in four years starting from 2011.

Alhaji Okposhi who gave the hint during an exclusive interview with Journalists in his office in Lafia, the state capital, asserted that tax collection has improved since the inception of the current administration under the leadership of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.

He said the state government, in a bold step to improve in it revenue drive in the state,  will introduce Hotel Occupancy and Restaurant Law even as he called for the establishment of revenue court to collect surface rent from solid mineral miners as well as the introduction of development levy by collecting tax from contractors in the state.

 “During the eight years of Governor Abdullahi Adamu N2.9bn was generated and in the four years of Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma, the sum of N5.2bn was realized while under Governor Al-Makura N16bn was generated in the past four years” he said.

The chief tax master however lamented the activites of fake tax collectors in Karu local Government, the gateway to the nation’s capital, and vowed to deal decisively with impersonators and quacks.

He decried the rising spate of illegal road blocks in Mararaban Gurku in Karu, Keffi, Akwanga and Ungwan Mayo in Kokona Local Government areas, stressing that “Revenue act number 21 of 1998 disallows the use of road blocks or barricade on highways to collect revenues”.
