To restructure its operation and take advantage of the opportunities that beckon in the marketplace, Upperlink, Nigeria’s Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, [ICANN] accredited registrar, has deepened its operations as it plans to float four subsidiaries soon, as the company has promoted 14 staff to management status.
In a company-wide Christmas’ message, Managing Director/CEO, Segun Akano, said that the company has emerged as the market leaders in the areas of domains, enterprise applications, Google apps and payment solutions; as such, the “management is looking forward to floating four subsidiaries from these core four areas soon”.
According to a statement signed by the company’s secretary, Ireti Chukwujama, the priority of achieving this goal “is what necessitated the recent staff promotion” in the company.
Chukwujama said the board has approved the promotions based on merit, having considered the valuable contributions of each staff to the emergence of Upperlink as Nigeria’s software development powerhouse.
Among those who were elevated are the two co-founders, Festus Ugwu and Adesola Akinsanya. They have been elevated to the positions of Executive Directors: Productions and Technical Support & Services respectively. Others are Rotimi Olayisoye, a former banker who joined the organization three years ago was also named as Executive Director, Sales & Marketing.
According to the statement, Ugwu is “gifted in software development and people management”. A graduate of Engineering Physics from Obafemi Awolowo University, he is also a team builder and has groomed many software developers of international appeals since Upperlink establishment 12 years ago.
Akinsanya has excellent customer service skills and has helped Upperlink build a brand name as a highly responsive organization, and thus has found in-roads into the services of leading banks in Nigeria. He is a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University with Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Science from University of Lagos.
Olayisoye has over 21 years’ cognate experience and he is a graduate of University of Lagos and an alumnus of Stanford SEED Institute for innovation and development in West Africa.
Other staff is three former general managers who got elevated to executive directors positions, two former senior managers have been promoted to the positions of general managers, two former managers were promoted to senior managers while seven former assistant managers have been elevated to managers.
