Guinness Nigeria, FRSC flag-off safety campaign

Guinness Nigeria plc, a subsidiary of Diageo plc, and the Federal Road Safety Corps have officially flagged off the 2014 ‘Don’t Drink and Drive Campaign for the ember months’ at the FRSC office in Ojota, Lagos.

Sesan Sobowale, corporate director, Guinness Nigeria, while addressing members of press at the flag-off ceremony, said: “The partnership with FRSC on the Don’t Drink and Drive Initiative has been ongoing annually for over 10 years and has done well to impact motorists and commercial drivers positively since it commenced.”

According to Sobowale, Guinness Nigeria is proud to be part of this crusade, targeted at promoting safe driving, especially during the ember months when there is usually a lot of celebration and festivities ongoing.

“Guinness is committed to responsible drinking and advised that motorists should not drive under the influence of alcohol as this may negatively influence the driver and adversely affect other passengers on-board the vehicle,” Sobowale said.

Hyginus Omeje, corps commander, Sector Commander Lagos of the FRSC, during the flag-off, said “Guinness and FRSC are coming together to advise the motoring public on the need to ensure safe driving, especially during the ember months,” urging motorists to obey traffic laws, avoid overloading and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol.

He also asked other corporate organisations to emulate Guinness Nigeria, as everyone should be involved in the safe driving initiative, and admonished the motoring public to also obey all traffic laws and celebrate with moderation this yuletide season.

On the partnership with Guinness Nigeria for the campaign, Omeje said Guinness Nigeria and FRSC were working together on this initiative to ensure safety on our roads, not just in Lagos but across the whole of Nigeria.
