Capital Bancorp set to enlighten investors

Capital Bancorp Plc has stressed the need to encourage active participation of domestic and high-net-worth individuals and institutional investors in the Nigerian capital market.

The firm said it was therefore set to hold an Investors’ Forum to prepare an agenda for all categories of investors, both local and foreign ones.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Capital Bancorp, Mr. Aigboje Higo, who disclosed this at a news conference on Wednesday in Lagos, stated that the Nigerian capital market had a lot of potential, adding that investors should take advantage of an array of investment opportunities.

He said the on-going recapitalisation of stock broking firms would enhance investor value as it would promote healthy competition among the stronger and more efficient firms that would emerge at the end of the exercise in September.

Higo said the forum, scheduled to hold on July 23 in Lagos, would focus on ‘’Wealth enhancement through investible opportunities in the Nigerian capital market’’.

He said, “It is our way of contributing to enlightening investors. We want to use it as an opportunity to let people know that in spite of what they read and see, the stock market, if you invest wisely using the right people, is still a veritable place to earn good returns and to enhance your worth.

“It is for us to interact with investors and potential investors and encourage them to engage with the market. We 100 per cent want foreign investors; we love them, but we want Nigerian investors to also be participating in the market, even at the same or higher level.”

Higo said investors would be shown at the forum with empirical evidence that domestic investors, who have stayed in the Nigerian stock market post-2009 and invested wisely, had enhanced their wealth.

According to the Capital Bancorp boss, the forum will be replicated in other geo-political zones of the country.

“This is our corporate contribution towards creating awareness of investible opportunities in the Nigerian capital market,” Higo said.

According to him, the forum will attract the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Mr. Oscar Onyema; the Executive Director, UBS Nigeria, Mr. Henry Erimodafe; the Managing Director/CEO, NASD Plc, Mr. Bola Ajomale; the Executive Producer, Kayode Fahm Production, Mr. Kayode Fahm; and the Managing Director/CEO, RTC Advisory Services Limited, Mr. Opeyemi Agbaje, among others.
