Africa Investor, an international investment and communications group, has honoured African and international business leaders, regulators and institutional investors for their roles in developing the market.
In recognition of their contributions, the group presented awards to them at the Ai Institutional Investment and Capital Market Awards, which was held in New York on Friday, a statement said.
The award ceremony was held during the 8th Ai CEO Institutional Investment Summit.
The Chief Executive Officer and Vice-Chairman, African investor, Mr. Hubert Danso, was quoted as saying, “Africa investor has long seen the need for a respected platform to provide recognition to Africa’s best and most innovative capital market leaders and institutional investors.
“We are delighted to be able to say that this year’s winners are our most exciting yet, and are testament to the ever-improving investment climate in Africa.”
At the event, the Stock Exchange of Mauritius was named the most innovative African stock exchange, while FBN Capital emerged best African investment bank. Standard Bank was recognised as the best African research team with the Capital Markets Authority of Kenya being named the most innovative capital markets regulator.
Others include Ecobank Securities and Asset Management (best performing broker in Africa); Prudential Registrars (best African fund manager); and Samba Foods (best African listing).
According to the statement, launched in 2007, and linked to the Africa investor Index Series, the Ai Institutional Investment and Capital Market Awards are based around the Ai Index Series.
The statement added that the awards are designed to recognise Africa’s best performing stock exchanges, listed companies, investment banks, research teams, regulators, socially responsible companies and sovereign wealth and pension fund investors.
In the Ai Index company categories, it said Zambia National Commercial Bank was awarded the best performing Ai100 company. The award for best performing Ai40 company went to Equity Bank; most innovative Ai SRI 50 company was awarded to Dangote Cement, and most innovative Ai SRI 30 Company went to GTBank for a second year in a row.
