Niger state governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, has urged the Senate to intervene and ensure the urgent completion of abandoned projects at Minna airport with the aim of making it a backup to Kaduna Airport in the event of closing the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja for runway repairs.
The governor made the request yesterday when he led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki, at the National Assembly in Abuja.
Bello, who noted that the equipment and materials needed were already on ground to beat the March, 2017 deadline for the closure of the Abuja Airport, said that given the arrangement in Minna, airlines would have an option to choose.
He added that the Kaduna airport has no capacity to handle the expected high volume of traffic as a result of diverting Abuja-bound flights for six weeks period of the repairs.
