THE Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has faulted a recent survey on airports in Africa, which ranks the Port Harcourt International Airport as the worst in the world, stating that the survey failed to take into cognisance the fact that the airport was undergoing a reconstruction and rehabilitation work.
Last week, SleepingInAirports.net, a survey group which rates airports had scored the Port Harcourt International Airport as “the dirtiest and most corrupt airport in Africa.”
But FAAN, in a statement by its Spokesman, Mr. Yakubu Dati, said it was erroneous for any serious survey agency to publish a report, which ranks an airport undergoing reconstruction work with those with standard facilities in need of just mere maintenance and routine clean-ups. “Our stand is that the said ranking was unfounded as it did not take cognisance of the fact that the Port Harcourt Airport terminal was still undergoing remodelling with some of its terminal operations still conducted in a temporary structure (tent),” Dati said.
