The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, Mr. Adedeji Ajadi, has called on students and pupils in the country to work towards a secure financial future by investing in the capital market.
Ajadi, who said learning to save is the first step towards investment, urged parents to ensure that they instill a savings culture in their children through their actions.
He made the call at the graduation ceremony of Sofunix International Schools in Lagos, a statement said on Tuesday.
Ajadi, who was the special guest of honor at the event, told pupils, staff members and parents at the event that it was wise to cultivate the habit of creating wealth by investing through the capital market.
He said one way parents could encourage the young ones was by buying shares for them as reward for academic excellence.
The CIS CEO explained that the institute had always encouraged students to participate in the capital market by opening its doors to schools for excursion and making its officials available to help them understand how the capital market worked.
He also informed them about the CIS Professional Diploma in Securities and Investment, which is targeted at secondary school certificate holders.
He commended the school’s management for its efforts towards not just creating an avenue for future leaders to learn, but for ensuring that they got the chance to become key players in moving the nation’s economy forward.
At the event, proprietors of private schools in the country were also urged to ensure that they abide by global best practices in running their schools.
The Proprietor, Sofunix International Schools, Mr. Sola Oni, explained that the staff and pupils of the school were constantly reminded of the essence of the schools’ core values, which include academic excellence, moral values, perseverance, professionalism, innovativeness, selfless service and endurance.
Oni noted that the core values defined the guiding principles that would enable the schools to realise their vision and mission. He congratulated the graduating pupils and students and urged them to remain good ambassadors of the schools.
