Nigerian international, Odion Ighalo is set for a spell on the sidelines after sustaining an injury in Changchun Yatai’s Chinese Super League clash on Saturday.
The former Watford star was forced off with an injury in the 73rd minute of his team’s 3-2 loss to Shanghai Shenhua after receiving a kick to the left ankle joint.
Changchun Yatai was taking no chances as its marque January signing was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment after the game at the Development Area Stadium.
Ighalo was thought to have suffered a recurrence of an old injury, following the tackle by an opponent.
His availability for the Super Eagles next competitive fixture against South Africa on June 10 is not in doubt if his rehabilitation goes according to plan as he is expected to spend four weeks on the sidelines.
Meanwhile, the relieved Nigeria international, Odion Ighalo has told ScoreNigeria.com.ng he was under pressure to score goal for his Chinese Super League side, Changchun Yatai after going four games without a goal.
Ighalo is the most expensive Nigeria star ever after his 20 million pounds move to China from Premier League side Watford.
The striker is reportedly on 200,000 pounds a week in China.The former Watford star, who opened his goals’ account with a brace on Saturday in their 3-2 loss to Shanghai Shenhua, said he was now relieved and looked forward to getting more goals.
“I was under pressure after four games without a goal, as I was eager to get goals, but I’m fine now with these goals,” the Changchun Yatai skipper told scorenigeria.com.ng
“My target is now to score more goals and help the team win games.”
Ighalo’s team is rooted at the bottom of the Chinese super League with a point after five rounds of matches.
